Lee Murray Interview
by Gsus, Moderator @ www.IronLife.com

Lee Murray InterviewGsus/IronLife.com: How did you get started in MMA?
Lee Murray: Through Dexter Casey.

Gsus: How did you meet Dexter Casey?
Murray: I first started training when I was 21,22 in Thai boxing at a club called nemesis, That's where I met Dexter someone introduced him to me and said he does ultimate fighting. So I asked him if he will teach me he said yes and it all started from there.

Gsus: Why did you decide to go Pro?
Murray: I decided to go pro because I love fighting and love knocking people out.

Gsus: What styles of fighting have you trained in?
Murray: I have trained in boxing, wrestling, Thai boxing and BJJ.

Gsus: What is a typical training day for Lee Murray?
Murray: I usually train 2hours of boxing in the morning and 1 hour of cardio at night the next day I will do 2hours of BJJ, wrestling then 1hour of cardio, I train every day and take a rest day when I start feeling like I am over training, I might throw a bit of weight training in every now and then. James Zikic is my main training partner I train boxing and grappling with him.

Gsus: Who is the best fighter you have fought?
Murray: Probably Pele.

Gsus: What is your most memorable victory?
Murray: Being the first person to knock Pele out and winning my UFC debut.

Gsus: You have very heavy hands for your weight, do you put that down to boxing or natural ability, have you always been able to punch hard??
Murray: I have always been a big puncher I weighed 155lbs up until I was 21 and could knock heavyweights out then, I have broken my hands so many times and had a lot of surgery on them, my boxing trainer calls me a freak I hit so hard.

Gsus: Out of all the young English talent , who do you think will follow in your steps and make it to the big time?
Murray: Ross Pettifer will make it soon he is still a bit to young at the moment he is only 18 but defiantly one to watch out for.

Gsus: How do you see MMA in the UK? Do you think it is getting more mainstream?
Murray: MMA is growing in the UK if we can get more fighters in the big shows it will just get bigger and bigger.

Gsus: How was your UFC debut?
Murray: My UFC debut could not have been better, I think it was better for me to win by a sub than a KO so I can show people that I can also fight on the ground.

Gsus: People are saying you vs. Phil Baroni would be a dream match, and it is a real possibility for the future, what do you think about the fight?
Murray: Me against Phil would be better as a main card fight there are so many people that want to see that fight hopefully for the belt, Phil just better start winning some fights.

Gsus: Do you see yourself staying at middleweight considering the middleweight situation with the title or moving up to light heavy where there is a lot of prestige put on that title?
Murray: If I keep winning they have got to bring that belt out, bottom line its people like me that will keep the division alive.

Gsus: Did you watch any of Riveiras fights before you fought him and how did you prepare for that fight?
Murray: Just watched his last fight, against the crow that was all I needed to see, he was lucky he didn't trade with me because I would of knocked him out.

Gsus: Did you see Baroni's last fight and what did you think of him?
Murray: I did see the Baroni fight I think it was a bad call by the ref, but shit happens, Baroni shouldn't of let it go for that long, he should of knocked tanner out when he had the chance its his own fault. Next time he might do more cardio and less weights.

Gsus: You have trained with Pat Miletich before, how was that? Was it very different to London Shootfighter training? Who impressed you the most out of the Miletich camp?
Murray: MFS is one of the best camps in the world today you know you are going to get good training when you go there, very similar in ways to London Shootfighters, just we don't have as many big show fighters as MFS. Matt Hughes impressed me the most with his freaky strength.

Gsus: If you could fight anyone you wanted in the MMA world, if any, who would it be?
Murray: I would like to fight whoever is number one.

Gsus: If I give you a name can you tell me the first thing that you think of them?

Vanderlei Silva
Murray: Aggressive, keeps coming forward.

Gsus: Randy Couture
Murray: AMAZING.

Gsus: Vitor Belfort
Murray: When he is on he is ON.

Gsus: Phil Baroni
Murray: He reminds me of my car always seems to run out of petrol.

Gsus: Jorge Rivera
Murray: I AM ALL BUSINESS ha ha ha don't make me laugh.

Gsus: Tito Ortiz
Murray: A big melon who walks around like he has something jammed up his arse.

Gsus: Chuck Liddell
Murray: A true fighter who's not scared to fight, not like someone we know.

Gsus: Fedor Emalianenko
Murray: Not really watched him fight.

Gsus: Nogueira
Murray: Unbelievable BJJ.

Gsus: Mirko Cro Cop
Murray: Deadly kicks just make sure you keep your hands up.

Gsus: Thanks for your time Lee
