Showdown Fightwear
by Bachir Ayoub (Team IronLife.com Writer)
Mixed martial art fans, promoters and athletes better stand up and take notice. For a sport that is still not widely accepted, we better consider ourselves lucky to have guys like Danny Yen and Joe Ferraro on our sides. MMA has yet to see two guys make such a huge splash in such a short period of time.
Showdown Fightwear started out as a small company offering general shirts and gear and has now evolved into Showdown Fightwear, Showdown Boxing and Showdown Combat Sports magazine. As if running three companies wasn’t enough, they decide to open a retail store. Now as if having a Showdown store isn’t a prayer come true in itself, you can also find DVD’s, posters and other cool MMA stuff. While running the store Joe found time to work for Canada’s leading MMA promotion TKO (formerly UCC). He has since left TKO promotions but his stamp on the organization will be felt for years to come. Now overseeing these projects would burn out the average human, but not these guys. The way the run their company is what separates them from their competition. I have had the pleasure of ordering from these guys and trust me when I say the customer comes first. The two times that I placed an order, both Danny and Joe offered to drop the item off at my house. That alone may seem like an amazing thing for two guys as busy as the Showdown crew to do, but you have to take into consideration that this offer comes while they are driving back and forth from Toronto and London, Ontario (A four hour car trip). It is refreshing to see two guys bring so much passion to the table, and especially to a sport that can use it.
Joe’s tireless efforts to legalize the sport in Ontario hushes any skepticism people may have about the duo’s motives for working so hard. To some people it may look like these guys are doing what they do only for profit, but the time put in to lobby for the legalization of MMA is a hell of a lot more than a truck load of people have done for the sport. They have continuously put MMA ahead of their own interests. Why you may ask? It’s simple, they love it.
It is important for mixed martial arts as a growing community to have leaders. Owning and operating many successful operations under the Showdown umbrella helps shed some of the ignorant stereotypes of MMA enthusiasts as being knuckle-walking teens The Canadian MMA scene could not have two better guys to than Danny Yen and Joe Ferraro. For the American Fans reading this article that haven’t heard of these guys or their company, I hope you have the same appreciation for their efforts as I do. I would normally say great work, but if their track record has taught me anything, it's they are only getting started. Thanks Boys.
