Johnathan Ivey: Unique Elbow Drop Q&A
by Tanner Rhoden, Team IronLife.com Writer

Johnathan Ivey: Unique Elbow Drop Q&A- JOHNATHAN, THERE'S BEEN A VIDEO CLIP FLOATING AROUND THE INTERNET OF YOU DROPPING, WHAT LOOKS TO BE "THE PEOPLE'S ELBOW" ON AN OPPONENT. WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR MIND BEFORE YOU DECIDED TO DO THAT? AND, WAS IT THE "THE PEOPLE'S ELBOW" YOU WERE TRYING TO COPY?
Yes, that was my interpretation of "The People's Elbow". I still have not gotten to see it yet, so I have no idea how it turned out, haha.

- IS THIS SOMETHING YOU PLANNED ON DOING IN A FIGHT OR WAS IT JUST A SPONTANEOUS THING?
Well, I was supposed to fight Kris Rothemel on that show and he is a very good Jiu-Jitsu guy, but a week before the show he hurt his back. So his replacement was Joe Nameth. Joe is a super nice guy, but I had fought him about 2 years ago at Tennessee Shooto so I knew he wouldn't be able to threaten me as far as the fight went. So on my way to New Orleans, me and my corner guy were thinking of things I could do to get the crowd into it. The show was going to be in a night club in New Orleans so I knew they would be into some wild shit. I don't watch wrestling, but my corner man does and he told me about the people's elbow on the way to New Orleans! We stopped at a gas station to get gas and he showed me what it looked like. When I seen it I told him "If I get a chance to do that, I am going to do it tonight!"

- HAD YOU PRACTICED THIS PREVIOUSLY IN TRAINING?
Bro, I think Yves would kick me out of Thug-Jitsu if I showed up at the gym and said i wanted to work on my people's elbow technique! No I had never practiced it before, haha

- WHAT WAS EVERYONE'S REACTION TO IT AFTER THE FIGHT?
The crowd loved it. I was told that was the only time all night that they got out of their seats. People were coming up to me and saying how they liked it and promoters were telling me they are having me in their next show. I just want to be original. I don't want to be like everybody else in this sport. I'm a big guy, but I don't want to fight like a big guy. I want to be exciting! I want to do rolling knee bars and mess with the crowd during a fight and bounce off the ropes and drop the elbow. I don't want to take a guy down and sit in his guard and go body, body, head until the bell rings. I like people with their own style. Yes, it is a fight and it is very serious, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun.

- DID YOUR OPPONENT SAY ANYTHING TO YOU ABOUT IT AFTERWARDS?
Not really, Joe is cool and he knew I was not trying to make him look bad or embarrass him. He knew I was just messing with the crowd. I don't feel too bad about it, I mean I've done worse to people in a fight, haha

- HOW DID IT FEEL AFTER THE FIGHT WAS OVER KNOWING THAT YOU PULLED A MOVE OFF LIKE THAT IN AN MMA FIGHT?
I guess it felt good to make the crowd happy. But I have been doing shit like that for about the last 4 years. I am always looking to pull off some crazy shit bro!

- WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE FROM JOHNATHAN IVEY IN THE FUTURE?
Well, A lot of fights for one thing. I am always staying busy. If any promoters would like to have me fight on there show they can contact me at pinkyring6@aol.com I hope to keep making the crowds happy.

- THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO CONDUCT THIS INTERVIEW WITH ME.
Thanks Tanner and I would like to thank all the Thugs at Thug-Jitsu for making me a better fighter. Holla at me Tanner when the tape gets done bro. Later.
