by Jimmy Boogaloo, Team IronLife.com Staff Writer & photos by Robert Swann

The Coventry Skydome again served as the venue for Cagewarriors, as the promotion touched down with Strike Force 2 UK vs. the World. On the card, there was the long awaited rematch between Leigh Remedios and Emmanuel Fernandez, Zuluzinho's UK debut, the surprise appearance of Moise Rimbon, as well as top UK favorites, Mike Bisping, Danny Batten and Matt Ewin showing up for duty.
- Mick Whitty (MMA Debut) Wolfslair Gym, UK vs. Toni Vivas (2-1-0) Alianza MMA, Spain
The match started with Mick firing in a sharp kick to the midsection and clinching with Toni, leading the fighters to trade knees. Once separated, Mick began to get the better of the punching exchanges and repeated his success in the clinch with knees and a solid right hook.
An early exchange with Mick getting the better of things.
Mick then took the fight to the floor, briefing achieving mount before having to, again, take Toni down to the mat. This time, Mick quickly secured the mount and pounded away with lefts and rights before the ref stepped in to save the Spaniard.
Mick pounds away in the mount.
Mick wins via ref stoppage (ground n pound)
- Rob Mitchell (3-0-0) Manchester Ground and Pound, UK vs. Gregory Bouchelaghem (3-1-0) French Top Team, France
Gregory came into this bout in confident mood following his win at the first Strike Force show. He came out and worked hard to take Rob down and keep him down. After a struggle for position, Greg took the mount, only to find himself reversed into his own guard.
 Gregory shoots for the takedown.
Gregory worked hard, going for a triangle before having an armbar attempt stopped in it's tracks by a solid punch from the Manchester fighter. Continuing to work a dangerous guard, he almost took Rob's back but Rob scored with a few left hands to end the round.
The Frenchman sinks a rear naked choke.
After some early floor work and an exchange of low kicks, Gregory shot in again, taking Rob down. Starting from sidemount, he moved to mount and then took Rob's back, sinking the choke almost immediately for the win.
Gregory wins via submission (rear naked choke)
- Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy (7-3-0), Rough House Gym, Nottingham, UK vs. Lautaro Arborelo (1-1-0) Alianza MMA, Spain
To begin one of the most entertaining bouts of the night, Dan came out and threatened early with his kicking ability, before being taken down by Lautaro. Working in turtle position, Dan ate a solid uppercut before making his way back to standing and putting in some hard knees in the clinch.
Lautaro works for a standing kimura.
Dan looked in control of the stand up at the start of the second round, but walked onto a jab from Lautaro. Holding out his glove to acknowledge the strike, Dan found himself on the defensive as the Spaniard tormed forward with punches. Dan, however, bossed the remaining minutes of the round with fluent combinations and solid clinch work.
Dan with a solid high kick.
The final round turned into a really one-sided affair with Dan seemingly able to score at will, mixing together vicious leg kicks and head and body attacks. After brutalizing Lautaro in the clinch, Dan smashed home 3 consecutive high kicks and the ref had seen enough.
Dan bangs in a brutal knee.
Dan wins via ref stoppage (barrage of gruesome strikes)
- Ross "The Gladiator" Pointon (3-4-0) Gladiator Gym, Stoke-on-Trent, UK vs. Thomas Valentin (0-2-0) Shootfighting Stockholm, Sweden
The man from Sweden wasted no time in shooting in to begin this match, Ross, however, was too strong and bullied him back into his guard where he was forced to eat a series of left and right hands.
Ross goes to work in Thomas's guard.
Standing up to defend an armbar, Ross tried to take Thomas's back, but found himself planted on the floor in his own guard. Ross didn't have to work off his back for long, turning his back, he was able to slip out and continue his ground and pound assault until the end of the round.
 Ross defends an armbar attempt.
Thomas came out to start the second round and, puzzlingly, pulled half-guard. He had Ross momentarily smiling on the other side of his face, however, by coming very close with a kimura attempt, but Ross was able to roll out beautifully. Tom, though, was not to be denied and again worked for the kimura, this time from his guard. In agony as the hold tightened, Ross was forced to tap.
Thomas wins via submission (kimura)
Cagewarriors Featherweight Title Fight - (Champion) Danny Batten (6-6-2) Ze Marcello, UK vs. Tom Niinimaki (9-2-1) Team Scandinavia, Finland.
The battle for the featherweight crown turned out to be an enthralling epic, with Danny, the BJJ man, fighting valiantly on his feet with the dangerous challenger from Finland.
In a cautious start, Danny scored with a left hook, right low kick combination and Tom fired back with punches and front kicks. As Danny lost his footing, Tom stood over him, landing some hard kicks before landing in his guard. From there Tom controlled well, defending knee and arm bar attempts, before landing flurries of punches and some brutal elbows to the head and body.
Tom kicks the downed BJJ man.
The next two rounds were fought almost exclusively on the feet with both men, in particular Danny, landing heavy low kicks. Tom stalked and looked threatening with his counter striking - landing two quick kicks to the body which led Danny to shake his head defiantly.
The fourth saw Danny bang home at least 6-7 horrible inside low kicks which agonizingly lifted Tom's leg off the floor. As the round continued, Tom came back, putting Danny down heavily with a huge right hand. Amazingly, Danny was able to hold on until the end of the round.
A beautiful kick to the body lands from Tom.
As the final round began, it was clear that Tom's lead leg had taken an almighty beating, but he continued to walk through the Batten low kicks, shrugging off Danny's leaping punch attempts to throw his own high kick. A takedown from Tom saw him finish the fight working for a guillotine in Danny's half-guard, but it was too little, too late.
Danny wins via majority decision.
- Henrique "Chocolate" Nogueira (Brazilian Top Team) vs. Moise Rimbon
Henrique came flying out with a wild punch and then worked hard for the takedown. In his own half guard, Moise sat up in an attempt to work his way out. Henrique pulled guard seeing the chance to go for a guillotine, eventually transitioning to work for both inside and outside heelhooks which looked on the verge of causing Moise a serious injury as time ran out.
Clearly in pain, Henrique resists the urge to tap.
Having been saved by the end of the round, Moise came out for the second looking pure business as he smashed in in two brutal punches and put Henrique down with a knee. The ref gave the BTT man every chance to recover, but the series of follow-up punches from Moise was too much and the fight was stopped.
After a series of heavy shots, Henrique is out.
Moise wins via ref stoppage (punches to downed opponent)
- David Brown (1-1-0), UK vs. Levente Varga, (3-0-0) Carson Gracie Hungary
In the seventh bout, Levente showed early that he was the stronger man, controlling the clinch and taking David down after some shaky moments on the feet. In the mount, the Hungarian was not able to capitalize on his advantage and the round came to a close.
Levente tries to secure his advantage with strikes.
The following two rounds went a similar way, with Levente ruling the clinch, occasionally landing knees and David at times looking like he might land a fight changing punch. In the end, he did not and an exhausted Levente ground out a workmanlike decision.
 David throws another bomb standing.
Levente wins via majority decision.
Cagewarriors Light-Heavyweight Title Fight - (Champion) Michael "The Count" Bisping (7-0-0) Wolfslair Gym, UK vs. Miika Mehmet (2-2-0) GB Club, Finland
Miika is an extraordinary looking man, stocky and powerful, he was able to bully Mike onto his back after an amazing display of raw strength. In his guard, Mike switched to a triangle from an armbar, but the Finn was too strong and passed into side mount.

- Ross "The Boss" Mason (6-2-0) WPT Gym, UK vs. Nelson Semedo, (3-1-0) Frota Team, Portugal
The fighters began by trading kicks and knees in the clinch. Nelson seemed to be the stronger of the two and after eating a right-left from Ross took him down to work some punches in his guard to see out the round.
 The fighters trade punches.
Ross continued with his kicking game in the second, throwing a beautiful left middlekick from southpaw before switching to orthodox to bang in a right low kick. Nelson was not having it, though, and stopped him in his tracks with a right hand to the nose which saw blood spray the length of the cage.
Ross holds on after being dropped heavily.
Chasing Ross to the floor he landed a barrage of punches before Ross amazingly reversed into top position. After a check by the doctor initially let the fight continue, the bleeding from Ross's nose became to heavy and the bout was stopped.
Nelson wins via doctor stoppage.
- Leigh Remedios (12-6-1) Team Quannum, UK vs. Emmanuel Fernandez (5-1-0) French Top Team, France
The tenth bout was a battle of the clinch. After some tentative stand up, the fighters almost went through the cage as some of the cable ties gave way. But, thankfully, it held up and was thoroughly repaired between rounds.
A hard knee goes in from Emmanuel.
In the second round, Emmanuael scored a beautiful takedown from the clinch, but Leigh swept him immediately and invited him back to his feet.

The final round was also conducted mainly in the clinch, with Emmanuel landing a few shots with his left elbow. The fight was scored a majority draw.
- Zuluzinho (Official MMA Debut) Representing the Wolfslair Gym (Brazil/UK) vs. Rafal Dabrowski (2-1-0) MMA Poland/OC Fight Team, Poland
The penultimate fight was an amazing sight to behold. Weighing in at 170kg... Zuluzinho, son of the legendary former Rickson Gracie adversary, Zulu, had arrived for his UK debut. To his credit, his opponent, Rafal, was not intimidated and gratefully accepted the opportunity to engage in a stand up war of attrition with the monstrous Brazilian.
 Zuluzinho lands a left hand.
Both men landed some heavy shots, but as soon as one gained the advantage, the other would fire back with renewed determination. Zuluzinho, with a neck that would not look out of place on an ox, was able to eat the punishment and smile back at his bloodied opponent with a mixture of venom and delight.
Rafal retaliates with a right hand.
By around the two minute mark of the second round, Rafal began to land low kicks to the cheers of a section of the crowd.
 Another vicious exchange.
It, however, seemed to spell his downfall, as soon after Zuluzinho crashed home with a right uppercut/righ hook combination that finally put the proud pole down to the mat.
 Zuluzinho wins!.
Zuluzinho wins via ref stoppage (punches)
Main event - Cagewarriors Middleweight Title Fight - (Champion) Matt Ewin (13-5-1) Range Fighting, UK vs. Martin "Hitman" Kampmann (6-1-0) KFT Shootfighting, Denmark*
Matt looked determined to begin the final match of the night, facing the Hitman from Denmark who was riding high after his sickening high-kick knock out of the talented American, Brendan Seguien.
Matt began with a range finding front kick, before attempting a couple of low shoots. Martin was too sharp though and stayed out of the way with some neat footwork. Pulling guard after a failed shoot, Matt found himself jammed up against the cage and under fire from the Dane.
 Martin controlling on top.
After disrupting the champion's guard, Martin was able to land four hurtful elbows which contorted Matt's face with agony and led him to tap out. A shocked crowd could hardly believe it as the teak-tough Martin was declared the new champion.
