by Lacey Sachet, Team IronLife.com Staff Writer and Admin @ www.ProActiveHealthNet.com

Since you began training, what MA related injuries have you sustained so far?

Broke both my hands, 2 cuts on my left brow and I dislocated my left knee cap.

Quote:
VulgarTheClown

Stretched MCL, minor tear in meniscus, popped elbows, knees, ankles (multiple times). Torn AC ligament in shoulder, minor fracture in knuckles (multiple), bruised bones and broken nose (multiple).

captainpoohpant

What is having a broken nose like? For some reason that was always my biggest fear when I boxed, I didn't worry about any brain injuries just my nose hahaha

Quote:
Neo_Pop

I'm rehabbing my right knee, ankle, elbow and wrist right now.

Quote:
Rudy-Dexter

I broke my right hand!!! damn! I remember that and uyyyy pain pain!!!! Is the word in my mind carajo!!!

I almost always have a broken toe or two when I train heavily, especially if it's grappling, its almost normal and also jammed fingers are common too(but these are minor). I've sprained my wrists a few times, pulled hamstrings from not warming up properly, broken my nose twice, busted lips, hyper extended joints... nothing too serious to where I needed to take a long time off accept for the 2 broken noses. I tore ligaments in my knee and had to take time off for a long time when I was around 16, but that was from something else other than training, this injury still bothers me to this day though and might have played a role in the other injuries I've had. Most of the serious injuries I've had came from riding dirt bikes instead.

EDIT: I also have a scar on the outside of my right eye that goes all the way to my temple which was from a head butt while wrestling in HS.

Quote:
Toffa

Dislocated shoulder, torn hamstring.

Quote:
sakurai

Torn Acl, fractured toe (twice), rotator cuff damage, pulled back muscle, a stinger, and bruised ankle.

Quote:
Pancake Sprawl
Messed up left wrist. Surprisingly and thankfully that's it.

Quote:
leo

About 3 broken fingers, 1 broken toe, alot of cuts, some crazy sh*t on my shins (forgot the name but its damn long) had to do some rehab..

I only train Muay Thai and man you won't get hurt if you don't want to. I mean its not like you are gonna start any kind of MA and get beat up to death the first day. You'll be asked if you wanna sparr, if you think you are ready go for it..!

Quote:
elgorilla630

I tore a tendon and had a hairline fracture in my right hand about a year ago.

Quote:
Mudrock

I've dislocated my right kneecap twice (is that what's referred to as "popping" the knee?) and suffered a big ass cut on the side of my head by blundering into a loudspeaker hanging from the ceiling while sparring. Sucks being 6'6 sometimes.

The combination of sweat and a long deep cut made me look like HBK for a while there, looked extra bloody since I'm blond.

Quote:
RushTime

Broken my left arm , broken toe once and my right shoulder dislocate like 20 times .. need a surgery now ..

Quote:
WatcH OuT

F'ed up hips and back and also some sort of stiff feeling in the winters ?!?!
Anyway I haven't trained anymore for about 5 yrs (only at home and passive ) but most common injuries I had with tkd and Thai boxing were my knees and bruised feet. Also had some shin pain and almost an open eyebrow (but it hasn't opened yet).
I would recommend to use good gear and equipment to avoid injuries also taking care of yourself is also a must when you train hard. So is food, supplements and stuff !!!

Quote:
sabre

Boxers fracture 4th metacarple left hand needed pins and screws to fix it. Broken ribs, herniated disks 2 in my neck, pulled muscles and that's it.

Quote:
driano

My knees hurts a lot.

Quote:
ziggy(o)(o)

Left shoulder dislocates, but always comes back in, and a few sprains is all for me thnx.

Also what is it called when you injure yourself, like I landed on my wrist, it hurt for 1 day, but after that didnt hurt, and I just couldn't bench press at all for about 3 months???

Quote:
D Hizzle

I was working on sprawls a while back and dislocated my knee... that sucked .... but no permanent damage... maybe a sprained wrist too.[QUOTE]

[QUOTE]quedijo

Just trained Muay Thai for a while. Had a big bruised knee once, hurt a lot, but it healed in about two weeks so it was all good.

Torn calf muscle, Torn pec: surgery, Torn joint capsule in thumb: surgery
Torn ankle ligaments: surgery, Separated shoulder: AC Joint, 2 partially torn MCL's, Severe sprain LCL.
Tendonitis in elbow for about 4-5 months to the point of tears after sparring and Pat made me take time off and just do cardio
About 200 black eyes haha
Really bad cauliflower ear.....had to drain it everyday for about 3 wks until it calmed down....still have a lil bit in my ear but it's hard now.
Disc problems in Back: had to wear a brace for 3 months on whole upper body
Split my eyebrows a few times from sparring, etc
These are the major injuries and I'm only 25......damn what I tough sport on your body!!!

Quote:

I've been pretty fortunate, just a few bumps and bruises,
Dislocated thumb- had to be administered anesthesia to get my thumb in place. Was out of training for a couple weeks until my hand felt good enough to be wrapped up so I could workout. Took probably 6 month and some PT to get it back to normal.
Stitches- I've had stitches on 3 occasions, no biggy.
Torn meniscus in my knee...That's the 2 tendons that hold your knee cap in place. Not too serious, just had to be iced and wrapped.
A couple hyper extended arms that caused me a week or 2 off and a bit of discomfort.
Not too bad for 4 or more years of training...I don't get injured much, even throughout college football...

Quote:
JohnnyBlueEyes

Separated shoulder and some hyper extended elbows. All on the right side. Jam the sh*t out of my toes to the point where it hurts to walk.

Quote:
shibby

I didn't get knocked out by a 15 year old, but I did go to the ground and stayed in a daze for a bit. I also got my nipple ring tore half out.

Quote:
Silat

- I tore off my left big toe
- I tore off my left frontal cross ligament (surgery)
- Broke a finger
- Twisted both my knee recently and injured the ligaments on the outside of my knees. I had an MRI scan last Monday and everything was normal.
It just hurts like when I make the same move. It takes time, training and rest.

Quote:
m.g

I've only had a broken nose... I've been practicing martial arts for 5 to 6 years now...

Quote:
Nick

I only believe I've had a bruised rib or however you may call it. In the very very beginning. Laughing even hurt.

And sometimes a f'ed up knee or something like that. Once I was training on the pad with my bro and a good friend of mine was there too. He kind of was obsessed with MMA because of us, and he suddenly grabs me from the back and puts an ankle lock on me. "Crack" was what we heard even before I could tap, couldn't walk for a few days! That was irritating!

Quote:
RisingSun

4 times dislocated shoulder.

Quote:
Italian*Berlusconi*

^^same here... already had one operation but my shoulder is still f'ed up a bit...

Quote:
Justinian

Hmmm all I can think of is my ankle (twisted) and just some really small injuries.

Quote:
thrillseekah

Small injuries, like bloody knuckles, bruises n stuff. Cant think of anything big.

Quote:
Fr3ddy

I broke my head once.

Quote:
Mach

Mainly jammed fingers from hitting, but on occasion I throw a kick or land back wrong from a kick and I twist or sprang my ankle pretty good. There's always a risk though and when I sparred/trained I didn't do it hard enough in my opinion.

Quote:
Rattlesnake840

No real serious injuries. Some bumps, bruises and sore joints.

Quote:
Marin

I don't know about you guys but I just got a real bad infection from the gloves used in Vale Tudo. I got cut 3 weeks ago and it wasn't until now it really showed to be an infection.

Quote:
numa

Got my neck injured while sparring (got my head pulled while maintaining guard... it's called neck crank or something..), that was 2 weeks after I got out of a hospital where I stayed for 3 weeks because of food poisoning, and my sparring partner obviously didn't understand the meaning of LIGHT sparring. On top of that he was 25+ kg heavier at the moment.

And I twisted my knee kicking a bag without warm-up (stupid, I know). That was in a gym, so I'm not sure if that counts...

And of course standard stuff: bruises, occasionally a toe/finger gets hit etc.

Quote:
atomi50

Once while sparring I got my neck twisted somehow. I was getting out from the guillotine choke and I somehow f'ed up my neck, nothing seriously but I couldn't move my head for 5 min or so.
Next one was during my 1st or 2nd training when I was practicing knee shots. I did it too fast and I felt very intense pain in the back of my knee. It hurt for like 2 weeks, but that happened because I made a big mistake by not properly warming up. I was late getting to training and in order to catch up with everybody, I didn't warm up correctly!

Quote:
tihach

I just had the usual stuff - bruised legs and face, bleeding nose, some liver shots...

Quote:
Creator

I had them all.

Quote:
Papagaj

I've had cuts, bruises, sprains, neck problems, both arms hyper-extended and a pretty tender nose.

Quote:
sinister

I injured my nose during sparring. I was covering up and a hard uppercut came through. The bones weren't broken, the ligaments (I don't know if its the right word - the stuff in between the holes) cracked and moved. The doctors haven't quite fixed it yet so I have problems breathing and I bleed very quickly. It's a motherf'er.

Quote:
Lt.Kilgore

RE: sinister ^ : I have a breathing problem through my left nostril cause of the cartilage ( that's the proper word for "the stuff in between the holes" ). But it's not something that i can't live with. Nose injuries.

Thank you for taking the time to reply guys. After reading your responses, I kind of wished I didn't ask this question *lol* I hope your injuries heal quickly and you recover from them as close to one hundred percent as possible.

ziggy~ I think you may have 'jammed' your wrist?

Til next month, stay safe~
