The Man Behind the MMA Expo - Toronto, Gerald Chopik The Man Behind the MMA Expo - Toronto, Gerald Chopik
by Reed Walker

After discovering a mixed martial arts convention was being held in my own city, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. As the largest event of its kind in North America, unless you’re training with Team Quest or the Lion’s Den, chances are you probably shouldn’t pass it up either. From what I can see, there are some awesome opportunities for both traditional and mixed martial arts practitioners. I had plans to attend a local Muay Thai tournament that someone I met on IronLife’s forum was fighting in. He won (props to you, Kosta). It was also at this tournament that I arranged to meet Gerald Chopik, the organizer of the Mixed Martial Arts Expo. We sat down for an interview... [read more]

Griffin vs. Bonnar - For The Love Of The GameGriffin vs. Bonnar - For The Love Of The Game Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar promised fireworks, but we have all heard that promise before. It is very seldom that a fight lives up to the expectations of the competitors and the insiders in the industry. What happened Saturday night surpassed the wildest dreams of the competitors critics and the spectators watching for the first time on free TV. ... Is MMA ever "too violent" for you?
I ask this because for the first time in years I've been going back and watching earlier UFC's that I loved back 3 or 4 years ago, but now I just find some of it too violent. As fight fans I guess we are desensitized to violence more than the average Joe, but was there or is there something in MMA that you think is too violent or that makes you uneasy? ... [read more]

The Road to 2800+lbs. (Part 3) The Road to 2800+lbs. (Part 3)
by Anthony Ricciuto

With all the sweat and toil that Garry had put into his training, and let’s not forget his new nutrition and supplementation program, he was primed to do some major damage. Garry has never been so focussed and ready to set new standards in the sport of powerlifting. Garry was now determined to set a powerlifting total so unreal it was guaranteed to shock the strength world and have his competitors wishing they took up golf instead. When all was said and done we both knew that the powerlifting world would be amazed at what he was about to accomplish. During the next year Garry was hitting some unreal numbers in the gym and on the platform. In his next big contest Garry hit an awesome 2640 total. Once Garry saw that 2600 fell like a piece of cake, he wasn’t going to be satisfied until he had a total so unreal it would make even the strongest powerlifters shake their heads in amazement. In no time he bettered his total to a 2667 which he did at the WPO finals in November 2003... [read more]

Dieting 101 – Getting StartedDieting 101 – Getting Started In my opinion the best way to get ready for a diet is to analyze your current food habits and intake. It’s time to get an idea of exactly what you have been doing up to this point by figuring out your caloric, fat, carbohydrate, protein and fluid intake. The best way to do this would be need to keep track of everything that you eat or drink for one week... [read more] The Most Important Factor for GrowingThe Most Important Factor for Growing
OK, the most important factor for growth is having a routine with a volume and frequency level that YOU can recover from. Not the level some pro does, or your friend does, but the amount of work YOU can recover and grow on. No, that’s not the most important part either, because if you don’t have enough protein you won’t grow... [read more]
