GARY YANDER INTERVIEW
- Hi Gary, thanks for taking time out of your schedule to do this interview with us at IronLife.com & IronLife Online Magazine.
- So where were you born and raised?
In Farmingdale on Long Island, NY
- Married? Kids?
No not married. I have a girlfriend named Stacy ,who I've been with for 3 years. I have a son, named Gary, he is almost 2 years old.
- How did you get your start in body building and nutrition?
Well I started bodybuilding when I was 16, I didn't do my first show until I was 30.
I never ate clean I just wanted to be big ,then a friend of mine started to see if he could get as ripped as he could. I was shocked, at the way he looked. and thought hmmm... Let me try this, and I couldn't believe how my body reacted.
- What childhood role models inspired you to compete?
With out a doubt, I would have to say Sylvester Stallone. When I watched Rocky, I was never the same. That movie had alot to do with me lifting my first weight. I've seen that movie over 100 times and it had a huge impact on me.
- If you had to compare your self to an a current IFBB pro who would you say you most aspire to look like?
I would have to say a combination of Johnny Moya and Lee Priest.
- Besides eating, sleeping and training what do in your spare time, hobbies, interests?
I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, Stacy and my son. I also love watching a good movie.
- Do you have a set weekly training schedule?
Yes, I train each body part once a week. Monday is chest, Tuesday is back, Wednesday is legs, Thursday is Shoulders and Arms on Friday.
- What is your favorite body part to train and why?
I would have to say my delts. They a very strong body part for me and I love testing to see how much I can push them Seated barbell press is my favorite. I have gone as heavy as 405 lbs. for 4 clean reps in the off season.
- What kind of diet are you using during your contest prep?
High protein, very minimal carbs, an increase in healthy fats, adding flax seed oil and an increase in fiber.
- What is your favorite cheat food?
Pancakes and waffles.
- Alot of kids these days are quick to turn to gear as a quick fix to get big. Do you feel steroids are the answer or just a part of the equation?
Bodybuilding is like a puzzle. You have several different pieces, such as diet, nutrition and rest. If you miss one of these pieces you can take all the gear in the world, with out these key components you'll never have that show like physique.
- Do you believe in over the counter and vitamin supplementation and why is it so important?
Yes, I think that whey protein, glutamine, and a good multi are great
supplements that every bodybuilder should use.
- Are you currently under contract with any supplement companies?
I did have a endorsement with cell thoxy.
- Do you have a website or email addy where your fans, promoters and modeling agencies can contact you?
Yes, I can be contacted at conan670@optonline.net
- Where do you see your self in five years and what are you goals?
Being a pro bodybuilder.
- Thanks Gary, feel free to stop by and say hello when you turn pro, hopefully that will come very soon.
