Thomas Hytten interview
by Arne - IronLife moderator & writer
"Up and Coming" fighter from Norway…Team Ookami, and a Poster here on IL
Name: Thomas Moon Lee Hytten
Nickname: “Spider”
Weight: Walks around 72kg, fights in under 70kg
Record: 28 fights (19-6-2), the last eight as professional.
Background as a fighter: Muay Thai, Shootfighting, boxing, wing chun and Kali
Comment on your last fight:?
It was a very short fight; I won on triangle choke after just 1.05 min. I did the very same choke in Russia when I fought Maxim Rudenski from Red Devils Team in M-1, Russia against the world. I was a bit surprised that my opponent tried to shoot since I thought he primarily was a stand up fighter, but he did and when we hit the ground, I put on a tight triangle for the tap out.
What Organisations do you fight for and have been fighting for?
Right now, I fight in EVT, but I have no obligation to them for more then one fight at the time. I have fought in UKMMAC, Shooto Finland, Shooto Japan, and M-1 Russia.
What’s your Favourite Organisation?
Right now EVT, but would love to fight in Pride or UFC in the future. I also like Shooto Japan since I believe they have some of the best lightweights fighting there.
What is your main goal as a fighter?
To become the best in my weight division, fight good fights and have great fun doing it.
Who are your normal TrainingPartners?
Ståle Nyang, John Oskar Hammer, Tor Olav Hauge, Eirik Digre, Steinar Ruud, Einar Næss, Stian Wilhelmsen, Joachim Hallum, Ole Pedersen, Erik Andersen from Team Ookami, and also Joakim Hansen whom I work out with on a regular basis.
Tell me about your Team Ookami?
We have produced a stable of good fighters and have several talents in progress, we have a very serious approach to the sport and we train, as any elite athletes would do, so I think that in short time we will be a Team to notice.
What’s your connection to Shootersmma?
We affiliated to Shooters already back in ’98, all our instructors take the MMA Course and follows the concept put together of all the instructors in Shooters with the help of some of the best fighters out there. Our Professional fighters are with Shooters and we participate in Shooters amateur events in Shootfighting, a great way to give fighters the experience they need before they eventually take the step up to become pro. Without Shooters and the support from August Wallén we would not have come as far as we have.
How do you view the Scandinavian fighters?
I think Scandinavian fighters hold a very high standard, just look at all the achievements made by Scandinavian fighters in some of the big promotions around the world.
Who are your favourite fighters?
Randy Couture, Wanderlei Silva and Fedor Emilianenko are all great champions worth mentioning, besides them I think some of the best fighters are in the lighter weight categories, and fighters like Genki Sudo always put up a great show.
How did you get into the sport?
I am born Asian but adopted to Norway; somehow, this was my way to search for my roots I guess…
Whom would you like to fight in the near future?
Vitor Shaolin Riberio is my dream opponent at the time; I would love to fight him. He fought Joakim Hansen and beat him, I would like to avenge his loss and bring the Shooto title back to Norway.
