In last month's issue I was fortunate enough to get to spend some time with Canada's newest IFBB Fitness Pro Mindi O'Brien. Well, since the last time I spoke with Mindi she has already begun to climb the ladder at the Pro Level. On August 7th, Mindi competed in her first Pro Fitness Show and ended up taking home 1st Place. This placing qualifies Mindi to compete at the Fitness Olympia in October of this year. So next stop for Mindi O'Brien is, the Fitness Olympia. Watch for her folks because this young lady is going to go far in the Fitness ranks! I've been watching Mindi compete since she started her Fitness career. She is always in tip top shape and her routines are always spectacular. I look forward to seeing her compete amongst the best in fitness today.

For the next few issues, I will speak with Mindi on her progress on the way to the Olympia. So, let's get this party started!

- IronLife/Fyre: Mindi, congratulations on your recent win in Texas.

Mindi O'Brien: Thank you so much.

- So, you must be thrilled to have qualified for the Fitness Olympia? What does this opportunity mean to you?

I am so thrilled and excited that I qualified to compete at the Fitness Olympia. This has always been a dream of mine. I feel so honored to have the opportunity to compete amongst the best fitness athletes in the world.

I am excited that I am representing my country at the Olympia.

- Tell me Mindi, will there be a lot of different prep for the Fitness Olympia as opposed to other competitions?

We (Dennis and I) take each contest one at a time. The Olympia will be the biggest show of my entire life, so everything will be changed. I’m coming to the Olympia with a tighter physique and a stronger, more polished routine. I am soooo excited!!!

- I've always been a huge fan of yours, following your fitness career since you've started. Will you surprise us with a new exciting routine for the Olympia?

Thank you for the compliment. I plan on coming to the Olympia with a few “new” skills and a more polished routine. I love my routine now, so I need to work on polishing it up, adding some new skills and really selling it to the judges.

- Are they still doing the extra performance round in the black one piece jumpsuit at the Fitness Olympia? And if so, how do you feel about that added round?

Yes, the compulsory routine is still part of the judging. I think having this round is great. Everyone is being judged on the same playing field. We are all dressed in a black full piece unitard (catsuit) and we have six mandatory skills that need to be included within a 45 second period. I enjoy this round. I think it should be brought to the amateur level as well.

- The Pro Ranks are obviously tougher than the amateur ranks. Will you have to put on more muscle and/or size to compete at that level? It was always our plan to hit the Pro circuit with a physique that would be competitive amongst the pro’s. So, we believe my muscularity and overall size is fine. We are now just fine tuning my physique and waiting to see how the judges perceive it.

- Is the judging any different in the Pro Ranks?

Every show is different and so is the judging. Some shows the judges may be looking for a more muscular physique and others a softer look.

- Will you be working with anyone new in prepping for the Fitness Olympia?

No. There is no reason to change what I have been doing. I will be training with my coach/fiancé`, Dennis Beitler. With his fitness knowledge and 100% support, I know he can take me to the top.

- Out of all of the IFBB fitness pro's, is there anyone in particular that you can't wait to get on stage with?

I think Adela Friedmansky and Kelly Ryan are both amazing competitors. I can’t wait to be on stage with them.

- A lot of the fitness girls have crossed over to the Figure Olympia. Is this something that you might consider in the future?

I never count anything out… I am an athlete and I love to compete. I have competed in so many different events. I am a 2x FVF North American Fitness and Strength Champion, Musclemania Heavy weight Bodybuilding Champion, Canadian Fitness Champion….I just love to compete.

- Once again, Mindi, thanks so much for taking the time to talk to me and I look forward to hearing your progress on your Road to the Olympia.

Your welcome and thank you so much for all the support!
