(For more information on Sachet and our friends at BeyondMass.com, please click on the above banner.)
Kristin became a member at Beyondmass.com to learn about
bodybuilding. Naturally, as on any site, things about a person's private life come out and I found out she's a stunt biker and race car driver!
Name: Kristin Leigh
Website: http://www.extremespeeds.com
Age: 20 years young
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 115lbs.
Education: Current college student at Central Piedmont - Sophomore
Weight training: 5 days on, 2 days off
Types of Training for stunting or racing: Training...sounds kind of silly but I do a lot of balance training. Everything to do with stunting is about balance! We practice a LOT!!! Almost every weekend and during the weekdays, we are out there busting our butts...literally sometimes!
- Sachet: Hi Kristin! I have a lot of questions to ask you as I'm rather fascinated with your hobbies! Is it a hobby or your livelihood? Who or what got you interested in riding motorcycles?
Kristin: Hey Lacey!! I'm glad you take interest in my hobbies and I'm willing to answer any and all questions you have for me. This should be fun!!
Freestyle stunt riding is just a hobby of mine. Sure I'd love to make tons of money off of it but I'm not THAT good yet! hehe As far as what got me interested in riding motorcycles, that would be the SPEED. I remember going to the drag strips so many times and seeing these cars with THOUSANDS of dollars in modifications get SMOKED by a pretty much stock bike.
If you know me, then you know I have an obsession with sport bikes. I have been riding on and off for a while now. Just last summer I came across my newest infatuation...stunting. I may not be the best out there by any means, but I sure do try. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk...
- That's the truth! Since the bikes are heavy, what is your training routine in the gym? Is there anything specifically in your workout which helps you to become stronger to handle your bike better?
Yes, the bikes are very heavy and I am a tiny thing compared to them!! "radical_P" from BeyondMass has helped me design a program that consists of training designed to help me become stronger and able to handle my bikes a bit better.
- Radical_P does go out of his way to help people customize programs to fit their lifestyles. This is a short biography of him as seen in his Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation forum.

"I received my bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology followed by my degree in Physical Therapy. I worked with numerous colleges developing strength and rehab programs. After getting bored of the politics associated with this I became the sports medicine director of three different clinics. Through this success I was then asked to be the physical therapist for a professional athletic team. I did this for three years and then gave it up to concentrate on my practice. I currently see all types of people from high school athletes to Professional Athletes from all over the country. Currently I have been working with all kinds of athletes for 14 years."
What exactly does Rad have you doing for a strength training routine?
This is my weekly routine.

- Ha! It's no wonder you don't carry much body fat *winks* What type of bike do you have Kristin? What are it's specs.. is it mostly stock or do you have it hooked up? What made you choose that bike?
As of right now I don't have a bike. I sold my Suzuki TL1000R a couple months back. I bought it because it was a really good deal and figured it would be a good street bike. I tried to stunt it by popping up a few wheelies and such, it was easy but not what I expected. As far as endos go (where you bring the bike up on the front wheel while coming to a complete stop) it was horrible on that bike. I am only about 115 lbs myself and that bike was a bit more heavy than I am!! haha So I would get a bit nervous and not perform the stunt like I was supposed to. I am hoping to get another stunt bike soon though. Probably going to be a Suzuki GSXR750 more than likely. The reason I like the GSXR so much is because its really easy to do tricks on it and has more power than a regular 600cc bike. I'll take it pretty slow and change the sprockets on it first then get all the gearing right. Some people can hop on ANY bike and do ANY stunt...well I'm a bit different. I like to get to know the bike inside and out before doing tricks. I'd like to share with you a video of some of us stunting at a competition down in Lakeland, FL. This way you can see what I do first hand.

- It's amazing what stunt drivers perform out there. How do you keep fear out of your mind so you're able to do what you do? You make it look so easy.
Fear is such an extreme word. Honestly...I don't have any fear when stunt riding. I guess I'm just hard headed and being that I grew up with a bunch of guys, I'm pretty tough. I try to clear my head before every practice/performance. If I'm scared about doing a trick in the very least, I won't do it. Simple as that. I go with my gut instinct. So far that method has kept me alive and with all my limbs! haha
- I tend to listen to my gut in all aspects of my life.. generally doesn't let me down either. What types of injuries have you sustained so far? Have you noticed that you don't have as many pulled muscles since you've been strength training?
As far an injuries go while stunting, I flipped the bike once and landed on my back. Like I said earlier, I am pretty hard headed and try to act tough a lot, I didn't go to the hospital or even a doctor. I'm regretting that now though!! I'll be going to a doctor soon though to see what type of damaged I caused. I have noticed that I don't get any pulled muscles or soreness ANYWHERE in my body since I have been strength training. My body feels more fit and relaxed than before when I wasn't working out at all. I can get on the bike and ride for HOURS and not feel as "stiff" as before.
Picture of Kristin riding double with a guy on her bike doing a standing wheelie.
- Jeeze.. I certainly hope the 'damage' isn't extensive.. What's the worst stunt accident you've witnessed? Have you had any accidents?
I really can't think of the worst accident I've witnessed. Man there are just so many accidents at each practice session alone. hehe 95% of my fellow riders wear their gear at all times, which saves their lives believe it or not. Helmet, jackets, gloves, knee pads, etc...if you keep those on at all times, when you do crash or go down, you're able to get right back up and continue stunting. But if you're not wearing your helmet/gear, you can plan on taking a trip to the hospital!!! I can't tell you how many times that I've went down and thanked God I was wearing my gear. It honestly has saved my life and saved some SKIN! Since I am an amateur in this sport, I tend to crash a lot more than others because I'm still trying to get the hang of things. My first ever stunting crash was when I was trying to pull an Endo (bike straight up on the front wheel, with back wheel up in the air), I grabbed 100% of the front brakes instead of 75%. Before I knew it the whole bike looped on me. I fell back first on the ground and luckily the bike didn't land on me. I got up after a couple of minutes and walked it off...but boy was I in some pain. The most recent crash I had was when I was trying to pop up a wheelie and pulled it up too hard and too fast, so I went to sit it back down and try it again. Well when I brought it back down I hit gravel the handlebars slapped the tank on the sides and from there on it just had a mind of its own. I went up a curb and hit face first into a wire fence. Now I was wearing all my gear so I got up after that crash too and laughed it off. Had I not been wearing my gear...I would have spent several days in the hospital and my face would have never of looked the same again. So trust me when I say this...to ANYONE that wants to even ride a motorcycle around town, always wear your gear. Accidents DO happen, so be prepared!!
- That's good advice.. they make protective gear for a reason and I'm happy to see that you promote wearing it. Who are your favorite stunt bike drivers?
My favorite stunters would have to be "Darius" out of California and "Aaron" out of Florida. Those guys really know how to rock the house with their awesome freestyle tricks. Plus both of them have been in this sport for a while and are willing to lend me a hand when needed.
- Approximately how many stunt shows have you done so far? They had you traveling around the US.. what was your schedule for this past year?
5 so far this year. I didn't start doing shows until January of this year, none last year.
- You have a strong love for a particular car *lol* and I can see why.. will you tell us about it?
http://www.extremespeeds.com/forums/suprapictures.html
Peek at the Supra. Yes I love my 1994 Toyota Supra. It is my pride and joy. Right now its down..."under construction" so to speak. haha It is getting a new engine and going single turbo! I can't wait to race it after that!!
- That's right! Racing cars is another hobby of yours. Have you participated in many car races? What about with your Supra.. have you raced it? If yes, how did you do?
Yes I LOVE racing cars. I started when I was pretty young, old enough to legally drive! I have done a few drag races at the local drag strip, nothing spectacular. Once my car's new modifications are done, I plan on participating in many more races and hopefully win some money! Or maybe even score a sponsorship!!!
- Hey.. reach for the stars girlie friend.. it's the only way to obtain goals. In fact, I just recently read a greeting card that pertains to this. 'It is in HOPING that we dream, in DREAMING that we seek, in SEEKING that we find our life's desire.' Who is your all time favorite car racer?
That would have to be the famous Mike Carlin. He is a GREAT guy as well as an AWESOME drag racer. He has put a lot of time and money into his 1998 Toyota Supra Turbo. He has the SP77 turbo on there and it makes 980rwhp!!! That is a LOT!! Mike is my car hero so to speak. I hope I can follow in his footsteps soon! You can see pictures of Mike's Supra at
http://www.t04r.com/members/mikecarlin.html
http://www.extremespeeds.com/forums/suprapictures.html
- Where do you obtain your information on upcoming stunt shows & car races to participate in? Say someone would like to get involved.. where would you direct them for information? Perhaps you'll be listing upcoming events on your site eventually?
This is my website, www.extremespeeds.com. I will be listing current sport bike stunt shows and car races that I will be attending. I'm having some problems with my computer right now (darn virus!) so hopefully the site will be updated soon.
- You're also a Toyota truck fan and in the midst of an upgrading project right now. Can you tell us about your truck, what upgrades you're planning to do & what you've accomplished on it so far?
http://www.beyondmass.com/forums/sh...p?threadid=9514
Peek at the Toyota. I have always had a love for big trucks!! Finally I got one and put bigger tires on it and lift kit. It stayed in the shop for a while though. I ended up totally redoing the truck! Rebuilt the motor, new transmission, new seats, bed liner, even put in new seatbelts. haha That truck has more in it than what its actually worth! But I love every bit of it! Bring on the mud because I'm ready to go 4wheelin. haha
- Now THAT sounds like fun! Well, after learning more about your past and your love for motor sports, I have a feeling you will 'score' that car racing sponsorship.. if you really want it. On another level, I'm happy I've had the opportunity to learn more about the humorous, optimistic, intelligent, talented fibers which make up ))--->Kristin.
