In a fight match, some fighters look blankly calm, some are flowing with calm cold fury. And some look lip-smacking calmly pleased. But others have a leaking mind seal and look nervous, scared, or hyper-excited.

Chi (Jap., ki) or martial calm is maintained in the first three, and leaking chi ("chee") is occurring in the last.

We all have a natural ability to seal our minds with chi, but there is a kung fu mind sealing technique which can help us do it better.

“mind" Now I’m not talking about "soft music and philosophy" yoga or meditation. And I’m not talking about throwing chi balls at your opponent. This is strictly a martial “mind sealing” practice whose only purpose is to seal your mind with a calm, cold fury and will during stress situations. It is not when you are vacationing in Miami with a martini that you need mind sealing. It is when you are in stress situations such as fight matches, serious medical injuries, or being unemployed, etc., that martial mind sealing becomes necessary.

Science has shown that during stressors such as these the muscles tense, breathing tightens, and the mind races. And if you stay in this stress response day after day, hypertension and ulcers result. So not only is it bad for your energy and focus, it breaks down your body.

True story. A year ago I was in a bad car accident. Did my mind sealing help? When I regained consciousness, I saw I had a chunk of my scalp removed by the rear view mirror, and my hip was fractured so I couldn’t get out of the car. Blood pouring down my face, feeling nauseated, and barely able to breath, I immediately did the iron shirt technique to block out the pain. Then I began mind sealing to restore my breathing, cease any racing mind, and seal in my martial calm.

Someone came over and said the cops were on their way. I realized there was nothing more I could do. So I filed the stressors of medical injury and three months down time as my new martial problem to solve, and proceeded to still my mind to the point where I lost consciousness.

My results? Clinically dead for a time, I was airlifted to a Philadelphia hospital, and operated on, none of which I remember: no stress, no pain. Eleven days in the hospital, three months in home traction, two weeks on crutches, two weeks on a cane, insurance only paid for some of the medical bills, and I lost my job. These are major stressors. But my mind sealing results were excellent: very little stress, very little pain. Yes, I was in a calm cold fury, but it was relaxed and fully resistive, without anger, hyper-fear, or depression.

This is what the publicly available US military manuals, my other study, had taught me about stress:

‘Stress is the body’s response to a demand paced on it. Everyone has a different capacity to cope wth stress, whether it is a result of external or internal factors. Mental and physical fitness helps fighters endure stress, but fear and other unpleasant feelings will naturally be present before and during combat fighting. Stress can reduce performance if its intensity is too great. Take a deep breath and shrug your shoulders to reduce tension. Focus on a well-learned task. Think of yourself succeeding. Do not let stress keep you from performing your duties.’

“mind" So that’s what I did. I continued to write my book from my bed, maintained my provisions, and kept my wounds cleaned, while maintaining my relaxed calm cold fury about my stressors. In my book, Martial Mind For All, you will find a detailed description of the martial mind sealing technique I used.
