Mine were in no particular order Blue
![]() But I don't disagree with placing Whitaker over Jones, but Lopez over Holyfield and De La Hoya, I do. Tapia I have no quarms with, I had thought about him as well as Hill and Canizalez. I was never a big fan of McClellan-Benn. The fight was ok, but the ending soured it totally, and I can't even watch it now. Pettaway-Brown is possibly the best Ko of the decade (Jackson-Castro trumps it for mine)...always a odd sight seeing Simon on his back throwing punches at air. He did that again later on in his career....thats a pro, never stops training, even in his sleep ![]() Sojaturong-Gonzalez HAS to be mentioned though.

I saw Benn x McClellan not knowing what would happen as a result and I don't think I found out the tragic epilogue until some time afterwards. The sheer insanity and tension of that fight is something I love.
Sojaturong x Gonzalez was amazing but I snuck in Douglas x Tyson I because it was such an amazing upset and in my view is underrated in terms of quality. Funny you say it has to be mentioned, I would have said the same about the Gatti fights I listed, Benn X McClellan and Pettaway x Brown. Those are four of my favorite fights ever. Yeah, I have Lopez high. Very high indeed.........*whistles* |

Well, Pettaway-Brown didn't have the excitement and just crazy heart showed by the little wariors IMO. Plus you had to put up with fucken Mike Tyson talking all the way through Brown-Pettaway *does Mikes girly voice* "This is a war!"
I listed one of the Gatti fights, which I felt to be his best, that was enough for me, can't have him hogging Humberto's list now can we? ![]() And well....its your list, and you can have Lopez anywhere, but that little man was a better defensive fighter outside the ring then he was in it. Thats saying something there isnt it

That "defensive" little man took on Rosendo Alvarez and beat knowing full well he was past his prime. I believe you have Alvarez in your top 10 p4p right now. That also says something right there doesnt it?

Also, Alvarez was killing himself to make weight, that was another big factor, as well as Rosendo getitng outright ripped off in their first fight.

Saman Sorjaturong, Kermin Guardia, Rocky Lin, Mongkol Charoen, Alex Sanchez, Rosendo Alvarez and Will Grigsby is a pretty damn good list of scalps for a decade in a division that often lacks legitimate opponents. Lopez did the best he could with what he had.

Humberto Gonzalez, Michael Carbajal, Muaricio Pastrana and Mark Johnson were available, and all within negotiable limits. Don wanted Lopez to have no part of any of them.
Sojaturjong was caught early and cold by Lopez, and to be honest he didn't become an excellent fighter until after he beat Gonzalez anyway. Alex Sanchez was OK, not great. Will Grigsby had a nice hair cut, and thats all

We had this topic at Sherdog a few months ago. It was before Tam-Tam started posting there (I think) and after Blue was banned. I generally disagreed with the people who put Toney among their top 10 fighters of the 90s, especially since he did very little after 1994. I'd even rank Virgil Hill over him as far as being a 90s fighter.

I'd disagree bigtime on Terrible Terry and JCC in anyones top ten. Norris lost a good five or six times in the nineties and JCC didnt do a whole lot outside of finish Taylor and get gift calls.
As for Hill, that loss in 91 to Hearns holds him back a bit. Hill also lost his two other big fights of the decade against Jones and Michalczewski. |

Muhammad Ali lost a good 5 or 6 times in the 70s (even though the judges said differently), but no one would fail to call him one of the best fighters of the 70s.

Virgil Hill didnt beat anyone half as good as Joe Frazier or George Foreman. Terrible comparison.

I'm not sure how to respond to that puzzlement Rubio. Ali got a few bad decisions but even if they had gone against him he would still have the win over Foreman and the pair of wins over Frazier. Nothing Hill did even comes close to comparing to that.
